About Us
The glass-bottomed boat nature watch is a new company set up by partners Jim and Sandra.
Jim
Jim was born and brought up in the village of St Abbs. He spent his summer holidays fishing from St Abbs, fishing mostly for crab and lobsters. Jim left school at the age of fifteen and joined the merchant navy and travelled around the world where he spent several months in South Georgia and Antarctica.
On leaving the merchant navy he started back at the fishing again. At 21 he sat for his captains ticket and from there he bought into and commanded his first fishing boat.
He then built several fishing boats and fished the waters as far as the Norwegian coast, Faroe Islands, Bay of Biscay and all around the British Isles. His experience covers a period of nearly 47 years of which he has been skipper for around 40 years.
Jim has a fair knowledge of the bird and marine life and the surrounding area, so if you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask.
Sandra
Sandra’s experience is mostly dealing with tourists.
Sandra started working in the tourist industry in 1979 as a waitress and then head waitress in the Birnam House Hotel, Birnam, Perthshire. Leaving to bring up her two boys.
In 1994 purchased a guest house in Birnam and worked to build up the business, working closely with the local tourist board to arrange events in the local area.
In 1998 moved to the Borders and purchased the St Abbs Haven Hotel at Coldingham Sands.
The Hotel was completely renovated and with its stunning views of the sea catered for a great cross section of visitors ensuring the visitors enjoyed their stay in the Borders and all the excellent visitor attractions the Borders has to offer.
Sandra is now enjoying a life by the sea and is still helping visitors enjoy our wonderful coastline as well as a relaxed holiday.
